Not all massage is created equal 🫢

Hey Reader,

For the longest time, I used to accept that I would feel sore and tight after a massage because that’s what always happened.

So I gave explicit instructions to use the lightest pressure, always found it impossible to speak up when it inevitably wasn’t (it’s the people pleaser in me), and learned to avoid it entirely.

But then I had my first Rolfing session, and everything I thought I understood about bodywork changed.

Massage, by design, relaxes your muscles, which can temporarily reduce tension throughout your body.

But if you’re hypermobile, that tension is what’s creating stability for your joints and when it’s gone, your nervous system goes into protection mode and tightens all your tissues up as a response.

If you’ve ever had a tension headache after an upper back or neck massage, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

But not all massages are created equal.

Rolfing helps to rebalance and release the fascia with long-held pressure in specific spots to create lasting structural changes. Even though it’s deeper than any massage I’ve ever had, I feel better each time. I’ve even found that aches and pains I’ve had for years have resolved after a few sessions.

It’s not magic. I’m still doing my mobility homework to maintain my body, but Rolfing has made a real difference for the IT band and upper trapezius tension I’d been carrying around for years.

And that’s exactly where Movement Mavens® Therapy Balls come in.

Rolling on your therapy balls works in a similar way - targeted pressure into the fascia to keep the work going between sessions. Think of it like brushing your teeth in between deep cleanings with your dentist.

Spend a few minutes each day rolling where you need it most, and you will feel a difference.

And, like massage, not all bodywork tools are created equal.

I designed Movement Mavens® Therapy Balls to be just the right density for your most sensitive spots and infinitely portable so you can have them on hand wherever life takes you.

Because the best tool is the one you'll actually use. 😉

If you've been curious about getting started, the Movement Mavens® Therapy Ball Mini Kit is the easiest on-ramp. Everything you need, set up to actually work, in one place.

Hey Reader, We are so good at maintaining everything except the one thing we actually live in. The little light comes on in the car and we get the oil changed. No question, no delay. But our bodies don't come with an indicator light, so we just... wait. Until something hurts badly enough to stop us. Until we can't ignore it anymore. But you can replace a control arm. You can swap out your oil filter. But a replacement hip or knee is never quite the same as the original. And while it might not...

Hey Reader, I was out of town visiting my cousin last week and figured I'd try a Pilates class while I was there. About 4 minutes in, I was already questioning the life choices that led me there. This class was designed to be deliberately and aggressively hard. It’s the kind of class where you look around the room wondering if everyone else is suffering as much as you are and their faces confirm that yes, they absolutely are. I knew that going in. And still, I dropped to my knees in every...

Hey Reader, I’ve been doing the same handful of exercises in my workouts all year, and I’ve never felt stronger. There’s so much pressure to be doing the newest, hottest, flashiest thing, but to be honest, sticking to the basics will make a world of difference. If you already make 17,492 decisions a day, making your workout even this 🤏🏻 much easier is a huge mental load off. Keeping it simple meant I stopped scrolling for inspiration before every workout. I didn’t have to stand there and try...
